 BEYOND THE HORIZON

Rover Scouts is designed for young adults aged 18 to 25. It focuses on personal growth, leadership, adventure, and community service. Being a Rover is all about taking on bigger challenges, giving back to the community, and continuing the Scouting journey into adulthood.

New to Scouting - No Problem! The beauty of being in the Scouting movement is that you can start at any time between 5 and 25 years old, depending on which section you join. Scouts Australia is open to everyone, and you don’t have to go through every section—you can jump in at any stage!



What Do Rover Scouts Do?

✅ Leadership & Service – Rovers often take on leadership roles in their communities and within Scouting. They organize events, lead projects, and mentor younger Scouts
✅ Outdoor Adventures – Camping, hiking, trekking, expeditions, and other high-adrenaline outdoor activities.
✅ Community Service – Volunteering in local and global communities, including environmental projects and social causes.
✅ Social & Personal Development – Attend social events, workshops, and training sessions that help develop professional skills and personal growth.
✅ Rover Moot – The Rover Moot is a major event that brings Rovers from around Australia (and the world) together for activities, learning, and fun.
✅ Badges & Achievements – Rovers can work towards the BP Scout Award, as well as international Scouting recognitions.
✅Travel - Many Rovers also take part in international events and have the opportunity to travel or volunteer abroad. Opportunities are available to volunteer at the Kanderskeg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.

How Does Rover Scouts Work?

  • Rovers meet in Crews (small groups of 10-30 people), where they plan their own activities, events, and projects.
  • They are youth-led, with Rovers taking responsibility for managing their own Crew’s program.
  • Rovers have the freedom to balance adventure, community service, training, and social activities.
  • The program is flexible, focusing on life skills, leadership development, and personal growth.
Rover Scouts are self-managing and plan and run all their own activities – which are tailored to the requirements and interests of members. Rover Scouts enjoy helping others, having a great time and taking on new challenges. Social activities such as balls, bush dances, harbour cruises, nights out, car rallies and “Moots” (gatherings of Rovers on a local, national and sometimes international level) will feature on an active Rover Scout’s program. Action is at the core of all Rover Scout activities. And it’s your choice what you do whether it’s kayaking, canyoning, hiking, camping in the snow or even planning an international expedition. There are heaps of international travel experiences for Rover Scouts to become involved in, with contingents leaving Australia every year to Scouting events across the globe, in addition to the individual travel opportunities that are also available.


Transition from Venturers to Rovers

After turning 18, Venturers can transition into Rover Scouts, where they continue to take on more leadership responsibilities and build their network of friendships and Scouting connections.

✅Enhanced Employability skills - Scouting provides a solid foundation of personal and professional skills that enhance job performance, build character, and prepare individuals to excel in their careers. 

Joining Rover Scouts (ages 18-25) offers young adults a unique combination of adventure, leadership, community service, and personal development.
