Discover the Adventure with Joey Scouts

DISCOVER ADVENTURE

Joey Scouts is the youngest section of Scouts Australia, designed for children aged 5 to 8 years old. It’s all about fun, friendship, and adventure in a safe and inclusive environment.

What Do Joey Scouts Do?

Joey Scouts participate in activities that help them develop confidence, teamwork, and basic outdoor skills. Some key activities include:

Outdoor Adventures – Bushwalking, camping, canoeing and nature play.

Creative Activities – Arts, crafts, and storytelling.
Teamwork Challenges – Games and problem-solving activities.
Community Engagement – Learning about helping others and the environment.
Badges & Achievements – Working towards badges like the Joey Scout Challenge Award (the highest Joey Scout award).

How Does It Work?
  • Joeys meet once a week in small groups called a Unit.

  • Other activities can occur on weekends throughout the term.
  • Activities are designed to be fun, hands-on, and engaging.
  • The program follows the Scouts Australia Youth Program, introducing kids to the Scouting journey.
  • Joeys are encouraged to be curious, caring, and adventurous.

Joey Scouts is the first chance for young children to have a real adventure, like their first paddle, a visit to the local fire station, or even an overnight camp! From 5 years of age, Joey Scouts play an active role in their program from discussing activities they want to do and experience a degree of independence and teamwork.

Joey Scouts are mentored by our older youth sections and always supported and supported by our trained adult leaders. The safety of all Joey Scouts is very important, which is why there is always leaders on hand during all activities.

Tranisition to Cubs

Around age 8, Joeys transition to Cub Scouts, where they take on more challenging activities like camping, hiking, and leadership roles.

Joey Scouts is a great way for kids to grow, learn, and have fun at the same time! Would you like to know more about how to get involved?
